John “The Magician” Dodson retained his BKFC World Flyweight Title on Friday after his first title defense against Dagoberto Aguero was declared a unanimous draw in their BKFC 59 Main Event battle at the sold-out Tingley Coliseum in Dodson’s hometown of Albuquerque, NM.
Dodson dropped the Dominican gloved boxing sensation once in the opening round, and was then sent to the canvas for the first two times in his BKFC career in the second and third. All three judges scored the action-packed contest 46-46, with the champ retaining his title.
Dodson entered fight night undefeated in his first three trips to the Squared Circle, with all of his victories coming by first-round stoppage. Aguero, who is 15-2 with 10 knockouts as a professional gloved boxer, falls to 1-0-1 under the BKFC banner.
“My hat’s off to Aguero. He came out here and performed. He hit harder than I expected, so I’m going to go back to the drawing board so I can come away with the victory instead of the draw,” Dodson told the jam-packed Tingley Coliseum.
Added Aguero: “John Dodson was a very tough fighter; I’m just not happy with the decision … I want to do it again, but in Miami.”
