Brian Maxwell halted Dan Bunyan in the first frame of their fight at BKFC Norfolk. He secured his first ever bare knuckle boxing win since debuting at BKFC 8 and toiling for nearly four years. Also adding to this great BKFC 39 victory is the fact that it occurred for Maxwell in his home state during the company’s historic first foray into Virginia. Maxwell explains, “I decided to step it up and make this training camp hard and it’s been super hard. I’ve been through multiple opponents to get here. I didn’t care who it was, where it was, or whatever. Like I always tell ‘em, I’ll fight anybody at any time, just give me ample time.”
Maxwell’s work with a reigning BKFC champion and current top five ranked pound for pound bare knuckle boxer clearly paid dividends in this fight. Maxwell says, “This has been probably my hardest fight camp since I’ve been in the BKFC. Everything worked out for me tonight. Everything that my coach made me work on for hours and hours upon time and days and days on time,” and, “Like I was telling you not too long ago, I finished my fight camp up here down in the seven; 757 Boxing gym with Reggie (Barnett Jr). That helped boost my confidence.”
Maxwell felt great and ready to compete right away after the sub-one minute finish. The southpaw combatant overcame being humbled by several big name losses earlier in his bare knuckle path (Jared Warren, Uly Diaz, and Francesco Ricchi), but felt an ever-mounting confidence in this last bout.
He says, “I told a couple people in the middle of fight camp that they’re going to see a different side of me. The real me in my home state. The cocky, the arrogant side of me, and that came out today. You could see it with my striking. Ultimately, I finished the guy with the confidence of my striking and finishing with a body shot and I cut him all to hell, man.
