Chad Lucanas is still buzzing from the weekend.
On Saturday, the 28-year-old lightweight prospect scored a first-round KO over Trai Santos in his bare knuckle fighting debut at BKFC Prospect Series at the sold-out River Cree Resort & Casino in his hometown of Edmonton.
“Man, it’s surreal,” he says.
“I’m still just processing the fact that I fought for BKFC,” he adds with a big laugh. “It’s so crazy. I can hardly believe I was able to get that opportunity and take advantage of it.”
Lucanas is a barber by trade who was previously pursuing a career in gloved boxing. But now that he’s dropped his gloves, he’s ready to make his run with BKFC.
“I love it – that was so much fun,” he says.
“That was some of the rawest (expletive) I’ve ever done. You don’t get that type of adrenaline from a regular boxing match; that was like a professional street fight!”
Lucanas had the time of his life in the BKFC Squared Circle, but it isn’t just about having fun. As a first-generation Canadian whose family hails from the Philippines, Lucanas is working tirelessly to establish himself as a professional athlete.
