The 46-year-old veteran had a rough go in his first BKFC fight, but wants to come back.

After four rounds fighting against Reggie Barnett Jr, the boxing veteran and newcomer to Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley told his corner that he was brutally fatigued, he was having trouble breathing after getting slammed to the mat, and he was done.

Around the internet, people opined that the ending was “odd.” So I checked in with Corley, to get a better sense of what went on in Biloxi, Mississippi.

“I decided at the end of the fourth I had to re-assess myself,” Corley explained to Bad Left Hook on Tuesday. “I could have went another round, but I was so fatigued from the takedown. I told my corner, and they said I was winning, but I told them I know what’s going on with my body.”

As of Tuesday, the 46-year-old Corley said he still wasn’t breathing freely, and that he booked an appointment to see a physician on Wednesday.

But the type of fight that had taken place, he hadn’t foreseen how much that would differ from Queensberry rules. He said he felt like he got booked into a “wrasslin’” bout.

“I knew coming in it was going to be a very rough fight, but I didn’t think it would be as brutal as it was.”

BKFC owner David Feldman has seen it time and again now: BKFC is a different deal, and adjusting to it coming from boxing or MMA is not as easy as a snap of the fingers.

“This is its own sport,” Feldman said. “This is fighting, this is not boxing or MMA. It’s a different animal that not everyone can handle. ‘Chop Chop’ did call me and ask for another fight. I think he found out the hard way that it’s different.”

“I want a rematch with Reggie,” Corley said. “I spoke to him right after, we said good fight. I slept on it, I woke up, and said, ‘Goddamn, my body is still hurting.’ It was still hard for me to breathe. It felt like someone was stepping on my back, and pushing on my chest. But it’s gotten better. I want Reggie again. He will fight in June, probaby for a title, and I hope he wins. I will be Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship champion.”
