Chris Eubank Jr says no date set for Conor Benn fight

Despite rumors, Chris Eubank Jr says there’s no date yet for a possible fight with Conor Benn.
Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn have been rumored to potentially meet on Dec. 23 in the United Kingdom, but Eubank said this past weekend that there’s no set plan just yet.
“There’s a lot of things that have to be smoothed out before we can announce a date for that fight,” he said.
“Would I like it to happen in December? Sure. But boxing, as you know, there’s a lot of things that have to roll and work for a fight to happen, and it’s not all there yet. We’ll wait to see what happens.”
Eubank (33-3, 24 KO) was supposed to face Benn (22-0, 14 KO) last year, but the whole thing fell apart due to adverse findings on a Conor Benn drug test.
Benn, 27, recently returned to the ring with a 10-round win over Rodolfo Orozco in Florida on a Matchroom undercard, but his licensing situation still isn’t quite settled in the UK, which is the only place to hold a Eubank vs Benn fight.
The 34-year-old Eubank was last out on Sept. 2, stopping Liam Smith within 10 rounds of one-sided in action. Smith upset Eubank in January, and while normally there would be thoughts of a rubber match, Eubank isn’t sure there will be any call for it, though he’s not counting it out.
“That’s something (the public) would have to tell me,” he said. “I don’t know if that’s a fight that people still want to see.
“If there’s a demand for it, of course, but I don’t know if there’s a demand. The result was so conclusive in the last fight. But never say never.”
