Morgan Starkey couldn’t be happier with his performance: “It felt awesome, man. Great, I loved it. I just slowed it down in my head. And I just saw the openings. I was prepared mentally. It’s very important to prepare mentally for something like that.”

When he connected with a powerful right hook, Starkey instantly knew that the stoppage was close: “Yeah, I saw him wobble. But for a second he was staying up. So I tried to get get an uppercut in there just to finish him off, like you’ve got to do, you got to make sure that he’s done.”

Starkey, who has an MMA background, has had his first bare knuckle fight several years ago. However, it was not hard for him to get back into the swing of things: “I’ve been training for about six months with MMA gloves on, but only boxing. I’ve just been boxing on pads and bags, just with small gloves on. So it was just natural anyway.”

This is how Starkey reacted when he got the call to be on the Leeds card: “It was f****** mental. How can I say no? I’m only from Bradford, you know what I mean? So I jumped straight on the Leed’s card, all day. No way I was coming out here tonight with a loss.”

This is what he loves most about bare knuckle fighting: “It’s the best sport in the world, hands down. I’ve done it all. 20 years of rugby, ten years of MMA, boxing. And this is the sport to be in right now. This is the best thing going. It’s just the rawness of it. This is combat, it’s just bare hands. Like, you just feel naked. You know what I mean? You feel like a warrior, a gladiator.”

There were no nerves for him stepping into the squared circle in Leeds: “No, not tonight. I’ve prepared everywhere. Mentally, physically. I didn’t leave a stone unturned. Everywhere we were prepped. I did it right.”

Morgan Starkey’s next fight will be at #BKFC46 in Newcastle on Julys 1st in a featherweight bout against Patryk Sagan.
