Pat Casey was finished in the third frame of his clash with Kyle Wright at
BKFC Norfolk. Casey had an initial plan to come forward, start out fast as
usual, and he had a defined aim to make an impact in this promotional
debut.
“I know they want action here. I didn’t come out with a victory, but it was
an exciting fight. I dropped him multiple times. I landed, I think 70 out of
100-something punches. So I brought a good fight. That was my plan. I
wanted to make a good impression and I think I did that. Even though I
didn’t come out with a win.”
As far as lessons learned that can be applied to a future effort in
knuckling up and toeing the line, Casey did have some takeaways.
“A little more patience. I had him hurt bad a few times. His eye was
bothering him. So I kind of went into attack mode and wanted to get him
out. I wasn’t patient enough when I had him hurt. Pace myself a little.”
“It’s tiring. So maybe pick my shots a little better, know when to let my foot
off the gas, and when to attack. But it was a great experience.”
Not only was this his first BKFC fight but it was also Casey’s first foray
into bare-knuckle boxing overall.
Referring to his resume prior to taking off the gloves, Casey debuted in
early-2015 and had nine amateur mixed martial arts bouts before turning
pro. He has since had fifteen pro-MMA bouts to his credit and has had a
handful of those fights under the Bellator MMA banner.
Also, Casey said this may well have been an all-time best crowd
atmosphere for him to perform at the nucleus of. The first impression of
this combat sport seemed to be a strong one as Casey indicated that he’d
love to be back.
