The long awaited heavyweight title fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua appears to finally have a date and location.

On Sunday, Fury announced that a deal has been struck for his fight against Joshua to happen on Aug. 14 with the showdown taking place in Saudi Arabia.

“Got some massive news for you all guys,” Fury said in a video posted to Twitter. “I’ve just got off the phone with Prince Khalid [bin Salman Al Saud] of Saudi Arabia, he told me this fight is 100 percent on. August 14, 2021, summertime. All eyes of the world will be on the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I cannot wait, repeat cannot wait to smash Anthony Joshua on the biggest stage of all times.

“This is going to be the biggest sporting event ever to grace the planet Earth. Do not miss it.”

The fight between Fury and Joshua has been rumored for months but there were more than a few hurdles to clear before the heavyweights could actually clash in the ring.

Fury was initially tied to a trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder, who had a rematch clause in his contract after they met on two separate occasions. In the last fight, Fury dominated Wilder before finishing him in the seventh round by TKO.

Plans for the third fight were eventually abandoned after Fury complained that the matchup was not scheduled during 2020, which then forced him to stay out of action for a longer period of time. Fury hasn’t fought since finishing Wilder in February 2020.

This new deal will reportedly come along with a massive site fee being paid by Saudi Arabia to land the Fury vs. Joshua fight.

According to a separate report from ESPN, Saudi Arabia will pay a whopping $155 million in fees to land the fight with Fury and Joshua receiving $75 million each guaranteed for the fight with the additional $5 million going towards “expenses and undercard.”

The fight between Fury and Joshua is expected to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with Fury’s promoter Bob Arum saying the matchup would likely happen around midnight local time, which means approximately 5 p.m. ET in the United States.

Fury and Joshua are considered the top two heavyweights in boxing with the British fighters holding six separate titles between them.
