In a thrilling showdown at BKFC 51, Harris Stephenson emerged victorious over Brian Maxwell, courtesy of a fifth-round disqualification (DQ).
Stephenson told #bareknucklenews
“I felt fantastic throughout the entire bout. I managed to drop him, I believe, 4 or 5 times in the initial four rounds. As the fifth round commenced, I felt like I had secured most, if not all, of the rounds. I was confident going into that final round, knowing that I needed to either finish him off or maintain my dominance for the remaining two minutes.”
However, the fight took an unexpected turn, leading to controversy. Stephenson telling #BKN,
“Things took a sudden twist when I got caught, knocked down briefly, and took a knee. To my astonishment, I was struck while I was down, resulting in my nose taking a severe hit, and blood began to pour. I stayed down for a moment, hearing the referee call for a timeout to assess the situation. As I collected my thoughts, I realized the severity of my nose injury.”
“You could see the blood pooling on the canvas, and I knew my nose was in terrible shape. The referee informed me that I wouldn’t be able to continue, and they ultimately called the fight due to an illegal strike on a downed opponent. Nevertheless, even if it had gone to a decision at that point, I believe victory would have been mine.”
Stephenson acknowledged Maxwell’s actions while grounded and believes it was unintentional ”
