David Morgan has answered the call for what is set to be the biggest outing in his combat sports career.

At 32 years of age, Morgan will compete in not only his first sanctioned bare knuckle bout, but also his first professional fight in any of the combative arts.

Throw in the fact that he will be exchanging hands with seasoned Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship veteran Travis “The Animal” Thompson at KnuckleMania on Super Bowl weekend, and Morgan could not be more thrilled.

But how does a guy with no professional bare knuckle experience earn the opportunity to test his skills against one of the best in the division and do it on the biggest sporting weekend of the year?

“I fought for David Feldman (BKFC President) on one of his boxing tournaments here in Arizona, Bad Boy Boxing,” Morgan said of his experience. “I won it, and fought for in it multiple times. I fought MMA for him as well. I’ve been trying to get on a bare knuckle show since BKFC 1 to be honest with you. This is not just my debut in BKFC but this is my pro debut as well. Making my pro debut, going against Travis Thompson. I’m not just jumping in there with anybody, I’m jumping in with one of the best in the world. He’s fought everybody that is anybody in the division. I’ve been trying to get a fight and eventually it was offered to me and I was like, ‘let’s do it.’”

While Morgan is respectful of his opponent, he also won’t shy away from stating that just because he doesn’t have the bare knuckle experience that Thompson does, it doesn’t mean he hasn’t been in a fight before.

“I’ve got about 43 or 44 fights between boxing, kickboxing, and MMA,” Morgan said. “I’ve won seven Arizona State titles in boxing. I’ve done amateur, I’ve done non-sanctioned, I’ve done underground fights. I’ve got over 100 underground fights.”

With all the experience that Morgan has under his belt, it was “life” that kept the Arizona based fighter from going pro.

Morgan states that he and his wife had a child, who is now four years old. Instead of training and fighting full time, he worked to provide for his family. But then as the world was tossed upside in 2020, Morgan wanted to get back into the fight game, and do it in a big way.

“My wife gave me the option to go get a job and work everyday or go and try to make a living out of something I love to do,” he said. “During the pandemic that the world is going through, I took my unemployment money and opened up my own gym. Now I am the owner of American Fight Systems, a boxing and kickboxing gym in Glendale.”

Morgan states that he currently trains with former pro boxer Joe Martell at Hammer Boxing where George Garcia is the head coach. He is also training with BKFC 4 competitor Shannon Ritch at his gym.

“I don’t know what to expect,” Morgan said of his upcoming experience with BKFC. “I just expect that Travis will bring his A game, I’ll bring mine. Let’s put on a show for everyone. At the end of the day my passion is to translate it back into my gym and help kids. I expect the best, a good show, and to gain a shit ton of new fans, let everyone in the division know I’m here.”

Morgan added to his statement by recalling a recent conversation with Chris “The Crippler” Leben at BKFC tryouts in Phoenix. The bare knuckle hopeful told Leben that one of three things are going to happen when he enters the squared circle against an opponent.

“I’m gonna get knocked out. I’m gonna knock him out. We’re gonna have a bloody ass war and that’s it.”
